In this project I was tasked with designing a Modular typeface during my study abroad in Rome, Italy. I created Roots a modular typeface that only uses three simple shapes inspired from Mesoamerican art. This is a continued passion project that is a work in progress.

The typeface Roots, or "Nitlwayu in Nahuatl, draws inspiration from ancient Mesoamerican art, embodying cultural roots and resilience. The typeface Roots serves as a bridge between the past and the present, preserving the beauty of Mesoamerican art and looking towards a future where more representation and diversity of cultures and voices that shape our global community is showcased within the design world.

Currently, I am focused on refining the anatomy of Roots. Although I previously created a downloadable font version using FontForge, I plan to release the finalized version of Roots once its anatomy is perfected. Additionally, I aim to develop various font versions within this typeface family, enhancing its versatility and appeal.
